How to Spoil Dad on Isle of Palms: The Ultimate Father’s Day Guide

June 4. 2026

Dad doesn’t need another tie. He doesn’t need a gift card. What he needs — what he’s probably been quietly hoping for — is a day that’s actually about him.

And there’s no better place to pull that off than Isle of Palms, South Carolina. Whether your dad’s idea of a perfect day involves a fishing rod, a tee time, a cold beer with a view, or a long table full of incredible seafood, IOP and the surrounding Lowcountry have exactly what he’s looking for.

Here’s how to make Father’s Day on the coast one he’ll actually remember.

For the Dad Who Loves to Fish: Book a Charter Out of IOP Marina

If your dad is happiest with a rod in his hand and saltwater on his face, Father’s Day on Isle of Palms is a no-brainer. The waters around IOP are some of the most productive on the entire East Coast, and June is prime time — tarpon are running, redfish are schooling in the marshes, and the offshore reefs are loaded.

The Isle of Palms Marina is your starting point. From there, you can book everything from a laid-back inshore trip through the tidal creeks to a full-day offshore adventure.

Captain Ben Floyd of Charleston Fish Finders has been working these waters for over 20 years and consistently earns rave reviews for putting clients on fish. Headshaker Charters with Captain Legare Leland and Charlestowne Coastal Charters with Captain Scott are two other excellent options with loyal followings.

A few tips: book early, especially for Father’s Day weekend — these charters fill up fast in June. Most inshore trips run four to six hours, which leaves plenty of time for dinner afterward. And if Dad catches a keeper, some local restaurants will cook your catch. That’s a Father’s Day story he’ll be telling for years.

Pro tip: If he’s bringing the grandkids along, a two-hour family charter is a perfect intro to fishing. Seeing a kid light up at their first catch might actually be the best gift of all.

For the Dad Who Lives on the Fairway: Tee It Up at Wild Dunes

If golf is his love language, Wild Dunes Resort has two Tom Fazio-designed courses sitting right here on Isle of Palms — and they’re worth every stroke. The Links Course runs along the ocean’s edge with rolling fairways and views of the Atlantic that make even a bogey feel pretty good. The Harbor Course winds through the marsh and Intracoastal Waterway, offering a completely different and equally beautiful challenge.

Book a tee time early in the morning before the June heat sets in, then follow it up with lunch at one of the resort’s restaurants. It’s a full morning of quality time with Dad that doesn’t require wrapping paper.

Not a golfer yourself? That’s fine — let him take a buddy or his favorite caddie (aka your teenager) and meet up afterward for food. He’ll love the independence of it.

For the Dad Who Just Wants to Be on the Water

Not every dad wants to fish. Some just want to be out on the water with nowhere to be. A few great options:

Sunset boat charter

Book a private sunset cruise out of Charleston Harbor for the whole family. Watching the sun drop below the Lowcountry marsh while you’re on the water with people you love — there’s not much better than that. Several local outfitters offer two-hour cruises perfect for groups.

Kayak the marsh

For the outdoorsy dad who’d rather paddle than motor, Barrier Island Eco-Tours and Coastal Expeditions both run guided kayak tours through the salt marshes surrounding IOP. The wildlife viewing alone — herons, dolphins, loggerhead turtles in season — makes it worth every paddle stroke.

Rent a boat and be the captain for the day

The Isle of Palms Marina also offers boat rentals if Dad wants to captain his own vessel for a few hours. Hand him the keys (so to speak) and let him call the shots. Some dads just need to be in charge of something that doesn’t involve a conference call.

Where to Feed Dad: Casual & Beachside

Sometimes the best Father’s Day meal isn’t the fanciest one — it’s the one where everyone’s in flip flops, there’s sand on the floor, and the food is so good nobody’s looking at their phone. These are our picks for that kind of day.

Acme Lowcountry Kitchen — Isle of Palms

A true IOP institution. Acme has been feeding locals and visitors for years with a menu built around fresh, locally sourced Lowcountry ingredients done right. The she-crab soup is legendary, the shrimp and grits are worth the trip alone, and the screened-in porch makes it feel like you’re eating at the nicest beach house you’ve ever been to. A great pick for Father’s Day brunch or an early dinner.

Coconut Joe’s Beach Grill — Isle of Palms

For the dad whose perfect meal involves ocean views, a cold beer, and something fried and delicious, Coconut Joe’s delivers every time. The rooftop bar is one of the best perches on the island, and with live music during peak season, it’s a full experience. Casual, fun, and right there on the beach.

Oystercatcher Restaurant & Bar — Sweetgrass Inn

A coastal-modern dining experience in the lobby of the Sweetgrass Inn. Fresh seafood, creative cocktails, and the kind of relaxed atmosphere that makes dinner feel effortless. A great evening option when you don’t want to leave the property.

Poe’s Tavern — Sullivan’s Island

Just a short drive across the connector, Poe’s Tavern on Sullivan’s Island is a must if Dad loves a great burger and a cold draft in a place with serious character. Named after Edgar Allan Poe — who was actually stationed on Sullivan’s Island — it’s got the kind of laid-back, slightly irreverent vibe that makes it feel like a locals’ secret, even though everyone loves it.

Where to Feed Dad: Nice Dinner Out

If you want to really pull out all the stops, the Lowcountry doesn’t disappoint. These are the spots worth making a reservation for.

Coda del Pesce — Isle of Palms

This is the special occasion restaurant right here on IOP that’s worth every penny. Chef Ken Vedrinski’s Italian seafood menu is outstanding — think beautifully prepared coastal dishes with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out over the Atlantic. It’s intimate, it’s impressive, and it feels like something you’d find in a much bigger city. Reserve well ahead for Father’s Day weekend.

The Obstinate Daughter — Sullivan’s Island

Just a short hop across the connector on Sullivan’s Island, The Obstinate Daughter is one of those restaurants that locals are fiercely loyal to — and for good reason. Chef Jacques Larson’s menu is eclectic Southern with strong Italian and French influences: wood-fired pizzas, house-made pastas, a raw bar, and small plates that all beg to be shared. The vibe is rustic-nautical with an open kitchen, great cocktails, and a warmth that makes it feel like the best kind of neighborhood spot. Reservations are a smart move for Father’s Day weekend.

Langdon’s Restaurant & Wine Bar — Mount Pleasant

If you want to really pull out all the stops, Langdon’s in Mount Pleasant is the move. Chef-owner Patrick Owens has been running Mt. Pleasant’s only AAA Four Diamond restaurant since 2003, fusing Lowcountry ingredients with global flavors in a refined, contemporary setting that never feels stuffy. Think goat cheese gnocchi with prosciutto, bone-in Berkshire pork chop, rack of lamb, and an acclaimed wine list to match. It’s the kind of dinner Dad will be talking about long after the plates are cleared. Reservations strongly recommended.

Bonus: For the BBQ Dad — Two Lowcountry Classics Worth the Drive

If your dad considers smoked meat a love language, the Charleston area has two spots that will make him very, very happy.

Home Team BBQ — Sullivan’s Island

You’re already close to Sullivan’s Island — and Home Team BBQ is right there waiting. With the beach just a block away, this place has serious Lowcountry soul: live music, cold drinks at the open window bar, a covered porch for catching the breeze, and a menu of smoked meats and classic sides that hits every time. It’s the kind of BBQ joint that feels like a party whether you want it to or not. First come, first served — no reservations, so get there early.

Swig & Swine — Multiple Charleston Locations

Chef Anthony DiBernardo’s Swig & Swine has been a Charleston BBQ institution since 2013. All hardwood smoked, all day — the pulled pork, brisket, ribs, and sausage are the real deal, and the sides (especially the Brunswick stew and corn pudding) are worth coming back for on their own. Pair it with one of their 20+ craft beers and Dad will be in his element. Multiple locations across Charleston mean you can find one that fits your day perfectly.

A Perfect Father’s Day on IOP: The Full Day Flow

Can’t decide? Here’s one way to put it all together:

  • Early morning: Inshore fishing charter out of IOP Marina (4–6 hrs)
  • Late morning: Back at the rental, rinse off, cold drinks on the porch
  • Afternoon: Beach time or a round of golf at Wild Dunes — Dad’s call

The Best Gift Is Being Here

Dads are notoriously hard to shop for. But time — real, unhurried, sun-soaked time in a place this beautiful — is something most of them don’t get enough of. Isle of Palms makes it easy to give him exactly that. Whether he’s reeling in a redfish at sunrise, sinking a putt with an ocean backdrop, or just sitting on the porch with a cold drink watching the water, Father’s Day on IOP hits differently than anything you could wrap in a box.
