We want every stay to feel effortless — so here's a friendly heads-up about a beach renourishment project happening on the island this year, and what it may mean for your visit.
The City of Isle of Palms is carrying out a beach renourishment project as part of its long-term Comprehensive Beach Management Plan. In short, it restores sand lost to natural erosion and storms — protecting the shoreline, the dunes, and the wide, walkable beach that makes the island so special. It's good news for the beach you love, and we'll be here to make your stay smooth while the work is underway.
The work is expected to take place in sections between summer and fall 2026, with sand placement beginning as early as July. Crews move steadily along the shoreline — roughly 100 to 300 feet per day — so any single stretch of beach is typically affected only briefly before the work moves on.
Where work is active in front of a particular section, you may see temporary equipment, piping, and limited beach access in that immediate area. Because crews often work around the clock to finish quickly, you might also notice some lighting or soft backup-alert sounds overnight — usually passing within a night or two as the work moves down the beach.
The good news: most of the island won't be affected at the same time, and the beach stays open, with plenty of access outside of the active work zones.
Please keep in mind: these dates and locations are estimates only. Beach renourishment is a dynamic construction project, and the schedule can shift with weather, ocean conditions, and overall progress. Because a final schedule hasn't been released, we can't predict whether work will be directly in front of a specific property during a given stay.
The City keeps a live beach-status map and posts the latest schedules, maps, and official notices on its Beach Restoration Projects page. It's the best place to check current activity near a specific spot.
We're monitoring updates from the City closely and will keep this page current as we learn more. If you'd like to talk through how the project may affect your property or travel dates, our Guest Services team is always happy to help — just reach out.
