Vacation mornings have their own rhythm.
There’s nowhere you have to be quite as early, breakfast can stretch a little longer, and that first cup of coffee is often enjoyed on a porch or balcony instead of on the way out the door. On Isle of Palms, some of the best mornings start with a walk on the beach followed by a stop for coffee—or the other way around.
The island may be small, but there are several great coffee shops on Isle of Palms depending on what kind of morning you have in mind. Whether you’re looking for a well-made latte, breakfast to bring back to the house, or somewhere to sit down and ease into the day, these are a few of our favorite places to start.
And if your plans take you off the island, we’ve included a few Mount Pleasant coffee shops worth knowing about just over the bridge.
Tucked along Palm Boulevard near Front Beach, Café Paname is one of those places that feels right at home on a beach island.
This is our pick when coffee is the priority. The menu goes beyond a basic drip coffee, with espresso drinks, cold brew, lattes and plenty of options for anyone who likes something a little different. There are also croissant breakfast sandwiches, pastries and other morning bites if you need something before heading to the beach.
Grab your coffee, take a walk toward the ocean, and you already have a pretty good start to the day.

When the plan calls for more than grabbing a cup and heading out the door, The Refuge is a good place to settle in.
Located on Palm Boulevard, The Refuge has a dedicated coffee bar alongside its breakfast and brunch offerings. You'll find espresso, cappuccinos, hot and iced lattes, Americanos, cold brew, chai, matcha and plenty of options for customizing your drink.
This is the stop we'd choose when everyone wants something different. The coffee drinker can get a proper latte, the non-coffee drinker has options, and breakfast doesn't have to come from somewhere else.
It also works particularly well for one of those vacation mornings when no one is in a hurry to get anywhere—which, as we talked about in The Vacation Effect, is part of what
For a morning that starts on the water—or just one that could use a good view—head to The Outpost at the Isle of Palms Marina.
The Outpost is part ship store, part market and part coffee stop, with a full-service coffee bar serving specialty coffee along with fresh breakfast options in the morning. Breakfast is served from 7 to 11 a.m., making it an especially convenient stop before a fishing charter, boat day or morning exploring the island.
We also like this one simply for the location. The marina offers a completely different view of Isle of Palms from the beachfront, with boats coming and going and the Intracoastal Waterway just beyond.
Grab coffee and breakfast, take a few minutes to enjoy the marina, and then get on with whatever the day has in store.

If someone in your group is awake before everyone else, send them on the coffee-and-bagel run.
Jeff's Bagel Run is one of the newer additions to the Isle of Palms morning lineup. It opens early, making it particularly convenient when you're heading out for a sunrise walk, fishing morning or travel day.
The focus here is freshly made bagels, spreads and coffee, and it's an easy option when you're feeding a house full of people. Pick up a variety of bagels and spreads, bring everything back to the rental, and let everyone eat whenever they finally make their way into the kitchen.

If you're staying inside the gates of Wild Dunes and don't feel like leaving the resort for your morning coffee, Hudson's Market & Café is an easy option.
Located in the Plaza at Wild Dunes Resort, Hudson's offers coffee drinks and lattes along with breakfast and plenty of grab-and-go options. It's especially convenient when you want to pick up coffee and something to eat before heading to the beach, pool or golf course without getting in the car and leaving the resort.
For guests staying in one of our Wild Dunes vacation rentals, it's a handy one to know about—particularly on those mornings when convenience wins.
If you're considering a stay inside the resort, our Wild Dunes on Isle of Palms guide covers more of what to expect, from the beaches and neighborhoods to dining and activities.

Sometimes coffee is just the beginning.
If everyone wakes up ready for a full breakfast, Sea Biscuit Cafe is an Isle of Palms classic. Located at 21 J.C. Long Boulevard, this is more of a traditional breakfast stop than a coffee shop, with the kind of menu that makes sense after an early walk on the beach—or before a full day in the sun.
For vacation mornings when you're craving a hearty breakfast, this is where we'd shift from coffee run to let's go get breakfast.
It's also a good reminder that not every morning on vacation needs to be rushed. Some are better with another cup of coffee and nowhere else to be for a while.
If you're heading off Isle of Palms for the morning—or looking for a good coffee stop on the way to Charleston—there are several Mount Pleasant coffee shops worth knowing about.
Sena Café is a European-style café serving coffee alongside pastries and sweets. It's a little farther into Mount Pleasant, but worth keeping in mind if your morning plans are taking you in that direction.
Bloom & Beans is another option for specialty coffee and a good stop to keep in your back pocket when you're already exploring Mount Pleasant.
Gala Café & Bakery is one of our favorite spots near the Old Village. Housed in a charming space on Pitt Street, Gala serves specialty coffee along with pastries, food and plenty of tempting desserts. Pair your visit with a walk through the Old Village or down toward Pitt Street Bridge for an easy Lowcountry morning away from the beach.
For a true coffee stop, Brown Fox Coffee is another Mount Pleasant favorite with a small, casual setup and a loyal local following.
Duffers Donuts & Coffee is another one to add to the list—especially if there are kids involved. This locally owned Mount Pleasant spot pairs fresh donuts with excellent coffee, making it an easy morning stop when you want a little more than your usual coffee run. Pick out a box to bring back to the house, grab a coffee for the drive, and you'll probably make everyone else on vacation very happy.
And if convenience is the priority, Metto Coffee & Tea on Coleman Boulevard is hard to beat. Metto has been part of the Mount Pleasant coffee scene since 2006, serving handcrafted coffee and tea along with breakfast, pastries and other quick bites. The drive-through also makes it particularly convenient when you've got a car full of people and you're already headed toward downtown Charleston.
These aren't necessarily places we'd leave Isle of Palms solely to visit, but they're great ones to have in your back pocket if your plans already have you crossing the Connector.
If you're making a full morning of it, our Charleston Farmers Markets & Coastal Picnics guide has a few more ideas for exploring Mount Pleasant and Charleston beyond the beach.
One of the things we love about staying on Isle of Palms is how easily the little routines of everyday life start to feel like part of the vacation.
Going out for coffee isn't just going out for coffee when you can take the long way back along the beach. Breakfast feels different when no one has somewhere they need to be afterward. Even bringing coffee back to the house feels a little better when it's going to be enjoyed on a screened porch or oceanfront balcony.
If you're an early riser, pair your coffee run with a sunrise walk. Pick up breakfast for everyone on the way back. Or take your coffee down to the beach and enjoy the quiet before the day gets going.
And if coffee is only the beginning of your plans, our Charleston Weekend Itinerary is a good place to start planning the rest of the day, with ideas for combining time on Isle of Palms with some of our favorite Charleston experiences.
Those small, unplanned parts of a trip are often what make an Isle of Palms vacation feel like a vacation in the first place.
There are plenty of ways to fill a day on Isle of Palms, but the morning doesn't need much of an agenda.
Find a good cup of coffee, take it somewhere with a view, and let breakfast run a little longer than usual. Then decide what comes next.
Maybe it's a full day at the beach, a trip into Charleston, a morning on the water or an afternoon spent doing absolutely nothing.
The plans can wait until after coffee.
